Selectarum stirpium americanarum historia (1763) was preceded by the small work, Enumeratio systematica plantarum (1760). They contain descriptions of plants from the islands of the West Indies and parts of the mainland. The larger work is a folio of 284 pages with 184 copper engravings from Jacquin’s drawings. Another edition of Selectarum was published in Vienna in 1780-81 and it contained an enlarged text with more extensive treatment of some species. The publication includes 264 hand colored plates from the author’s drawings. The engraver was the Austrian artist, Joseph Wagner.
